Our client is a privately owned Canadian corporation specializing in the engineering, design, manufacture, and sales of fit-for-purpose, small footprint utility vehicles. The company provides aftermarket product support both directly and through an authorized worldwide dealer network.
They are ISO9001 registered and maintain a comprehensive health and safety program. Their engineering philosophy focuses on designing vehicles with the lowest Total Cost of Ownership for customers operating in harsh environments.
Job Description
The General Manager has overall responsibility for the strategic direction of the company and its resulting P&L performance. The objective is to maximize shareholder value while ensuring strong alignment with key stakeholders, including customers, employees, and suppliers.
Responsibilities & Key Activities (including but not limited to):
- Oversee all aspects of company operations
- Provide leadership and direction to the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), including:
- Engineering Manager
- Service Manager
- Production Manager
- Sales and Marketing Manager
- Global Supply Chain Manager
- Corporate Controller
- Global Parts Sales Manager
- Set and manage annual KPIs for the SLT
- Conduct annual performance reviews for SLT members
- Act as the functional HR lead, including:
- Hiring
- Discipline
- Terminations and layoffs
- Benefits reviews
- Salary and compensation approvals
- Continuously improve systems, processes, and organizational efficiency
- Ensure coordination and workflow alignment across departments
- Develop new business opportunities and growth strategies
- Engage with senior leaders across customers, dealers, and suppliers
- Oversee and approve annual company and departmental budgets
- Report on business performance to the Board of Directors
- Develop and execute tactical programs aligned with strategic objectives
- Ensure delivery and quality of products and services to customers
- Evaluate and approve key investments in equipment, infrastructure, and talent
- Chair SLT quarterly meetings and manage executive agenda
- Participate in the Occupational Health & Safety committee and support safety initiatives
- Drive profitable growth and operational efficiency
- Lead cost reduction and performance improvement initiatives
- Maintain overall responsibility for company profitability
Requirements:
- 5–15 years of experience in General Management or Senior Leadership within an OEM environment in the underground hard rock mining equipment industry (or closely related sector), preferably within an SME
- Working knowledge of lean manufacturing principles
- Understanding of territory management within a sales environment
- Strong understanding of underground hard rock mining methods and industry dynamics
- International business experience considered an asset
- Experience working in dealer-based sales and service models
- Strong understanding of P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow management
- Post-secondary education in one or more of the following considered an asset:
- Industrial Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Mining Engineering
- MBA
- Bilingual (French/English) considered an asset
