Location: Hybrid – Markham, ON (3-days in office, 2 days remote)

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $60,000–$80,000 per year

About the Role

Currently seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Substation Design Technician to join our electrical engineering team. This is an associate-level position ideal for someone with hands-on substation design experience layout and protection/control design. You’ll be responsible for creating and managing detailed substation design drawings in compliance with all relevant industry, project specifications, codes and standards.

Key Responsibilities

· Develop and maintain substation physical layout drawings, including equipment placement and bus configurations

· Prepare protection and control wiring diagrams, schematics, and single-line diagrams using AutoCAD or similar CAD tools

· Collaborate closely with electrical engineers and project teams to ensure accuracy, consistency, and alignment with project goals

· Apply relevant electrical codes and standards (CSA, IEEE, IEC) throughout the design process

· Organize and maintain drawing packages, revision logs, and technical documentation for each project

· Support field or construction teams by providing drawing clarifications when necessary

Qualifications

· Diploma or certification in Electrical Engineering Technology or a related discipline

· Experience in substation design (minimum 3 years preferred)

· Proficiency in AutoCAD or similar CAD software

· Familiarity with other design tools such as MicroStation, Revit, or ETAP

· Knowledge of applicable electrical standards, codes, and utility requirements

· Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and written/verbal communication abilities.

· Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a project team.
